Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is the top-ranked foldable in the US

A perfect score is hard to argue with. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra just earned a 5 out of 5 across every camera and display evaluation run by Consumer Reports, making it the highest-rated foldable phone in the United States right now. That’s not a marketing claim. That’s an independent testing organization doing the work and calling it.

According to SamMobile, the findings come from Consumer Reports, which buys its own devices and runs all testing in-house. There’s no manufacturer access, no PR spin. The organization also factors in real consumer survey data, so the ratings reflect both lab results and actual user experience. That combination makes the score mean something.

And the Fold 8 Ultra didn’t show up alone. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 both landed near the top as well, each scoring a 5 for camera performance and ease of use. All three models also hit 91 out of 100 in the reliability category. For a product category that has historically had durability questions hanging over it, that number is worth paying attention to.

The bigger picture here is timing. Samsung is releasing the Fold 8 Ultra into a market that’s about to get a lot more crowded. Apple is reportedly working on its first foldable phone, and the hype around that is only going to grow. Samsung needed its flagship foldable to make a strong statement before that conversation takes over, and a top ranking from Consumer Reports does exactly that.

What the results really show is that Samsung has matured its foldable lineup to a point where the hardware can compete with traditional flagship phones on the things that actually matter to buyers: camera quality, display performance, and day-to-day reliability. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is no longer a niche curiosity for early adopters. It’s a serious phone that happens to fold.

So yes, the Apple foldable is coming. But right now, Samsung owns this category, and it has the scores to back that up.
