Huawei really isn’t slowing down. The MatePad Air 2026 only made it to China this month, arriving alongside the Mate XT 2 tri-fold, and Huawei is already adding another tablet to the family. The MatePad Air Z is here, and it comes in not one but two distinct versions. Whether that’s a smart move or just SKU bloat, we’ll find out soon enough.
Two versions, five colors, one chipset
As reported by Gizmochina, the MatePad Air Z comes in a Standard edition and an Enjoy Edition. Both are already listed for pre-sale on Huawei’s VMall store, though an official launch date hasn’t been confirmed yet. The Standard model is available in Coral Orange, Island Blue, and Space Gray. The Enjoy Edition comes in Nebula Pink and Moonlight Silver. So there’s a color for pretty much every taste, which is nice.
The overall design follows the same lines as the regular MatePad Air, but three of the five color options get a different camera module treatment. The Standard model has a circular lens sitting inside a pill-shaped housing with an LED flash. The Enjoy Edition keeps it simpler with an oval-shaped lens housing. It’s a small distinction, but it gives each version its own personality.
Under the hood, both tablets run on Huawei’s Kirin T93S23 chipset paired with HarmonyOS 7. No surprises there, and no real complaints either. The chip should handle everyday tasks, streaming, and light productivity without breaking a sweat.
That display is the real story here
Let’s talk about the screen, because that’s clearly where Huawei is putting its energy. The MatePad Air Z has a 12-inch Ultra HD Eye-Care PaperMatte display with a 2.8K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and an 88% screen-to-body ratio. The PaperMatte finish is designed to cut down glare and keep images readable in bright conditions. For anyone who’s ever tried reading on a glossy tablet screen outside, you know why this actually matters.
A 144Hz refresh rate on a tablet at this price point is genuinely good to see. It makes scrolling smoother and animations noticeably crisper. So if you use a tablet for content creation, note-taking, or just binge-watching, this display sounds like it delivers.
Camera specs and accessories
Both versions share the same camera setup: an 8MP front camera and a 50MP rear camera. That rear sensor is a solid spec for a tablet, especially if you ever need to scan documents or shoot quick reference photos. The front camera is perfectly fine for video calls.

The keyboard cover in particular is a smart addition. It pushes the MatePad Air Z closer to laptop-replacement territory, which is exactly where Huawei wants its tablets to sit.
What we still don’t know
Pricing hasn’t been fully confirmed yet, and Huawei still hasn’t shared an official launch date. But the timing is interesting. The Mate 90 series is expected next week, and more MatePad Air Z details could come out alongside that announcement. Keep an eye on that event if you’re considering this tablet.
The MatePad Air Z isn’t trying to be flashy for the sake of it. A strong display, capable chipset, and two clearly differentiated versions give buyers actual choices. Whether the Enjoy Edition really justifies its existence beyond the color options is a fair question. But the Standard model, especially with the keyboard accessory, looks like a genuinely useful productivity tablet for anyone already inside the Huawei ecosystem.
