Samsung’s standard color picks for the Galaxy S27 Ultra are, let’s be honest, pretty safe. Black, Blue, Light Pink, White. Fine choices, sure, but nothing that’s going to make you stop scrolling. So the news that a special Violet option is also in the works? That’s actually the more interesting story here.
According to Android Headlines, the tip comes from Ice Universe, one of the most reliable Samsung leakers around. He already dropped the four base colors earlier, and has now confirmed that a “special” Violet color is joining the lineup. That word “special” is doing a lot of work here. It strongly suggests this one won’t be sitting on shelves at your local carrier store. Like Samsung has done before, it could be exclusive to Samsung’s own online store.
For context, the Galaxy S26 Ultra had Cobalt Violet as one of its hero colors. It was a standard option, front and center. The S27 Ultra’s Violet sounds like a different story, both in name and likely in shade. Samsung tends to tweak these non-standard colors between generations, so expect something similar but distinct. Whether it leans more blue-purple or red-purple, we don’t know yet.
This fits a pattern Samsung has been running for a while now. The S26 Ultra had four standard colors plus two Samsung Mobile exclusives. If the S27 Ultra follows the same playbook, we’re probably looking at six colors total when everything is confirmed. Five have been mentioned so far, which means one is still unaccounted for.
Here’s what we know about the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s color lineup so far:
- Black
- Blue
- Light Pink
- White
- Violet (special/exclusive)
- One more color still unconfirmed
Color strategy might sound like a small detail, but it genuinely matters for flagship phones at this price point. When you’re spending north of $1,200, the color is part of the statement. Samsung knows this. Apple knows this. The Ultra lineup has always attracted buyers who want the best, and giving them a store-exclusive color option creates a reason to buy direct, which is good for Samsung’s margins and good for anyone who wants something a little less common.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2027, alongside the Galaxy S27, S27 Plus, and a new S27 Pro model. On the hardware side, the Ultra is reportedly getting a redesigned horizontal camera bar on the back, a main camera upgrade, better image processing, and slightly faster charging. So there’s plenty to talk about beyond the color options.
But color is still underrated as a factor. Personally, a bold red or something genuinely unexpected would be more exciting than another shade of purple. Still, Violet is a better call than a fifth shade of gray, and the fact that Samsung is clearly thinking about exclusivity and differentiation here is a good sign for what the full S27 Ultra lineup might look like.
