Vivo V80 is official: a 7,200mAh battery and ZEISS cameras at a real-world price

A 7,200mAh battery in a mid-range phone is the kind of number that makes you do a double-take. Vivo just announced the V80 in India, and on paper, this thing looks like a serious contender. But dig a little deeper and you’ll find a few decisions that sting a bit, especially if you were expecting an upgrade from the V70 in every department.

A display that earns its keep

The V80 has a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a resolution of 2750 x 1260 pixels. It hits 144Hz and peaks at a wild 5,000 nits of brightness. That’s the kind of screen that holds up in direct sunlight without making you squint and curse. The design is clean too, with a flat panel, uniform bezels, and a centered punch-hole camera. All the physical buttons sit on the right side, and the frame is flat. Nothing flashy, but nothing offensive either.

The battery situation is genuinely impressive

Let’s be real: 7,200mAh is massive. Most flagships are still hovering around 5,000mAh, so Vivo is pushing hard on endurance here. The V80 supports 90W wired charging, which means topping that huge cell up won’t take forever. For anyone who lives on their phone all day and hates hunting for outlets, this is a compelling reason to pay attention.

ZEISS cameras and some serious zoom

On the back, there’s a triple camera setup with ZEISS branding across all three lenses. The main shooter is a 50-megapixel camera using Sony’s LYTIA 700V sensor, with OIS rated at CIPA 4.5 stops of stabilization. That’s solid. There’s also an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 50-megapixel Night Telephoto camera built on Sony’s IMX882 sensor, which supports OIS, 3x optical zoom, and up to 100x digital zoom. The ZEISS partnership gives Vivo some real credibility in the camera department, and those specs suggest low-light and zoom performance should genuinely impress.

What’s inside and where Vivo had to cut corners

The V80 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a 4nm chip from mid-2025. Here’s the thing: it’s the exact same processor used in the V70. So on the chip front, there’s zero generational improvement. And it gets worse. Where the V70 used faster LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, the V80 steps back to LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. That’s a real regression, not a minor footnote.

Vivo almost certainly made this call because of rising component costs, and other brands are making similar moves right now. It’s understandable, but it’s still a tough pill to swallow when you’re spending upwards of $650 on a phone. You deserve to know before you buy.

On the software side, the phone ships with Android 17 and Vivo’s OriginOS 7 skin. It has an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.4, and eSIM support. It also carries both IP68 and IP69 certification, which means it can handle dust, deep water submersion, and high-pressure water jets. That’s genuinely useful protection, not just a spec sheet checkbox.

Colors, pricing, and who this is actually for

The V80 comes in three colors: Horizon Blue, Sunrise Anthem, and Stellar Black. Pricing starts at INR 62,999 (around $654) and goes up to INR 79,999 (around $830) depending on the configuration.

So who is this for? If you want a phone with a massive battery, a great display, and a capable ZEISS-backed camera system, the V80 delivers. But if you were hoping for a meaningful internal upgrade over the V70, you’re not getting one. The storage and RAM downgrade is a real step backward, and Vivo needs to own that. Still, for battery-obsessed users in India who shoot a lot of photos, the V80 has enough going for it to stay on your shortlist.
