One UI 9 is rolling out now to Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 in the US

Samsung didn’t waste much time. Less than a week after kicking off the One UI 9 rollout in South Korea, the company has now brought the Android 17-based update stateside. As reported by Android Headlines, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are officially getting One UI 9.0 in the US, starting with factory-unlocked models.

The rollout is happening in stages, so don’t panic if you haven’t seen the notification yet. You can try nudging it along by going to Settings, then Software update, then hitting “Check for updates”. It doesn’t always work, but it sometimes speeds things up. Otherwise, just wait it out.

So what’s actually new here? The biggest headline is that this is the first Android 17-based update for both phones, which already makes it significant. But beyond the platform bump, One UI 9.0 brings real, usable changes. The Quick Panel gets a proper overhaul, finally letting you customize it the way you actually want instead of working around Samsung’s defaults. That’s a small thing that makes a big daily difference.

Gemini integration goes deeper with this update too. Samsung has been leaning hard into AI features across its software, and One UI 9 continues that push. Whether you’re into it or not, Gemini is becoming a bigger part of the Samsung experience, and this update reflects that. Samsung DeX also gets improvements, which will matter to the Z Fold 6 crowd who actually use the desktop mode. Samsung Notes gets some love as well, along with new accessibility features and additional AI tools sprinkled throughout the OS.

Here’s a quick look at what One UI 9 brings to these foldables:

  • More customizable Quick Panel
  • Deeper Google Gemini integration
  • Samsung DeX enhancements
  • Samsung Notes improvements
  • New AI features
  • New accessibility options

This update matters because it marks the start of Samsung’s Android 17 cycle for its 2024 foldable lineup. These phones are still very capable, and keeping them on the latest Android version means users aren’t getting left behind as Samsung pushes its newer hardware. It also shows Samsung moving faster on major OS rollouts than it used to, which is good to see.

But here’s the thing: One UI 9.0 isn’t the end of the road. One UI 9.5 is coming in Q1 2027, and it’ll land first on the Galaxy S27 series, likely in January or February. After that, the Galaxy S26, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7 will be next in line. The Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 will have to wait a bit longer for that one. So if you’re rocking either of these phones, enjoy One UI 9.0 now. It’s a solid update. Just know there’s more coming, even if it won’t arrive first on your device.
