HTC Wildfire prototype sold on auction for 350 EUR

Even though the HTC Wildfire hasn’t been officially released (it’s only announced), that hasn’t stopped an unnamed person from selling the prototype unit on a Netherlands-based auction site. I haven’t caught the auction myself, but from what I’m hearing the price started at 300 and closed at 350 EUR. Not bad for the phone that will be sold in its final form for about 300 EUR.

As you probably already know, the Wildfire not only looks but also acts like Nexus One’s younger brother. Features include a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor, 384MB of RAM, 3.2-inch capacitive QVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, HSPA and WiFi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth and so on.

Personally, I find the Wildfire to be the clear winner in its category. I’ve no doubts many carriers, especially in Europe, will offer it free of charge on a “not that expensive” contract helping propel Android to the mass market. That, however, doesn’t mean I want one – I’m a super-geek who only grabs the high-end gadgets. 🙂
