Opera Software, which is already dominating the Russian mobile web browser market, announced that MegaFon will extend its special package “Unlimited Internet with Opera Mini” to all Russian territories. Initially, the operator launched the package in Moscow region in September 2009, allowing people to browse the web through Opera Mini without any limits for just 7 roubles (0.18 EUR) per day. That trial obviously proved as a success and now the residents of Ural and Siberia will get to try out the service too, with the rest of the territories to follow shortly.
As you probably know, Opera Mini works on a number of devices, both feature and smart phones — the application is available for Android, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Symbian as well as Java ME-enabled handsets. It’s popular because it compresses the data (up to 90%), resulting in cost savings and increased speed.
MegaFon is the leader of mobile Internet in Russia, serving 39% of mobile web traffic according to ComNews Research.
