Gowalla’s social check-in app has updated its graphics to take advantage of the iPhone 4’s awesome display, along with a few other small tweaks. Location handling has been changed, multitasking for iOS 4 included, easier Facebook and Twitter connectivity included, and new integration with the address book, allowing you to find friends whose info is already stored locally. Before 2.2, Gowalla for iPhone had recently updated their localization to include French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Arabic-speakers.
A big part of Gowalla’s appeal is the wide variety and high graphical quality of badges used for locations, so it makes sense that they (and any other iPhone app developer, really) would want to keep up to pace with Apple’s latest device. Gowalla’s also been spreading to other platforms, like Android, though I’m not too impressed with their BlackBerry app to date, and the webOS version probably has as few users as there are Palm Pre/Pixi owners.
For the uninitiated, Gowalla is a mobile application that creates a location-based social network based on creating and checking-in to spots whereever you go. Friends can see where you’ve been, and share pictures of spots, comments, and leave virtual items, like geocaching.
