French research house, UFC-Que Choisir, surveyed French 3G subscribers only to discover that 41% of them are dissatisfied with their service. As a matter of fact, 21% of the surveyed subscribers say they more often get EDGE or GPRS services instead of 3G. And when 3G service is available, 60% of respondents say the network is slower than anticipated, prompting them [respondents] not to use social networking services while on the go. However, that’s not the case with websites optimized for mobile access and for dedicated apps, with 58% of 3G customers reporting to use them.
Apparently, French mobile users have concerns about the nature of the unlimited part of the tariffs, suspecting that networks are deliberately throttling the download speeds. In that sense, Orange was recently forced to clarify its advertising – to point out the difference between the peak rates possible from the real-life results that occur.
In other words – Iliad, which won France’s 4th 3G license, should be able to get some of the complaining customers with ease. Don’t you just love competition? 🙂
