Motorola Droid X sold out online – ships July 23

Well, that didn’t take long. It looks like the Motorola Droid X has sold out on its initial batch Verizon Wireless’ website and the Android superphone won’t ship until next week.

Here’s what you’ll be greeted with when you try and order the Motorola Droid X:

That’s not too bad of a wait, really – especially when you consider how long the Droid Incredible has been delayed – but it’s still a little disappointing. We heard rumors that inventory supplies would be low and it would lead to long lines like the one you see at the top of the post.

Of course, Verizon poo-pooed the notions that there would be supply issues with the Motorola Droid X but it never outright said how many units it would make available. That’s standard operating procedure though, so we can’t give them too much guff.

It’s clear why there’s demand for the Motorola Droid X, as the Android-powered handset is a beast. In our full review, I said it is an excellent smartphone that can go toe-to-toe with the Apple iPhone 4 and other killer devices. I’d say it’s easily the best smartphone on Verizon today and it’s one of the best on the entire market. Check out our Superphone Shootout to see how it stacks up to other high-profile handsets.

The flagship Android phone on Verizon will rock the 2.1 version of the software but the companies promised 2.2 will be coming by late summer. This will give you tons of new goodies like full Adobe Flash support and improved performance overall. If you’re the hacking/rooting type, you may want to check out our post on how the eFuse technology could potentially impact your ability to tinker with the device.

Waiting for that shiny Motorola Droid X to be in your hands? Check out the full review to tide you over.
