Fact: People want to get their news straight from the horses mouth

horsesmouth.jpgTechmeme is a source I use to keep track about the hot topics people are talking about on the internets. Recently they launched a new feature called “Leaderboard” which lists the top 100 pages people are linking to. Something that a blog called bitemarks pointed out was the fact that in this top 100 list were the press pages of Microsoft, Nokia and Apple. What does this mean to you? Probably nothing since you’re used to getting your news online, but I am hoping that this data will hopefully show companies that their press rooms are not just for the press; they are viewed by consumers as well.

It used to be we went to people like the associated press or Reuters to get the scoop, today that isn’t the case. Customers want you to tell them directly what it is you’re trying to sell and they’re also getting tired of this foul marketing language. Don’t call something a revolution because you think it is, adopt rich media such as pictures and video which you otherwise wouldn’t because newswire services are stuck in the 1920’s and most importantly try and make products personal.

When Google releases new features they have an employee record a video demoing whatever it has changed and improved; that says a lot more than another company who overuses the word synergy.
