Samsung Epic 4G Hoping for FCC Stamp of Approval

Samsung is hoping to get its first WiMax phone for the U.S., the Epic 4G, past the halls of the FCC for approval. That outline you see above is not quite as sexy as the device you’ve seen–and the device we’ve had on hands on–before, but it’s part of what has been submitted to the FCC so that everything can be a go. It’s been labeled as the Samsung SPH-D700, in typical Samsung fashion, and there is little doubt that it is in fact the Epic 4G headed for Sprint.

Engadget, who spotted this and did a little bit of deep digging, also found this:

The test report identifies the D700 as a “Cellular/PCS CDMA/EvDO Phone with Bluetooth, WLAN, and WiMAX,” so unless Samsung’s got another 4G phone for Sprint waiting in the wings, that sounds like pretty damning evidence to us — especially considering that the ID label document’s outline basically matches up with the real device.

Any doubts left? We’ve already had our paws on it with Sprint markings everywhere, this FCC filing seems to only point in one direction. Yep, pretty soon you’ll be able to get your paws on the new Galaxy S device from Samsung and hopefully your city will be lit up with 4G so you can really get the most out of the handset.
