Samsung Flight II is a mid-range phone for heavy texters

Samsung and AT&T jointly announced the messaging-centric Flight II (A927) and the touchscreen Eternity II today. The specifications for the Flight II, successor to the original Flight, were outed by Samsung last week and include:

  • Full horizontal sliding QWERTY keyboard
  • Touchscreen display
  • TouchWiz UI with three customizable menu screens with drag-n-drop widgets
  • Full HTML browser
  • 2MP camera with camcorder
  • Enhanced social networking with PicDial, Star Tweets and WHERE
  • Full messaging capabilities including Mobile Email, MS, MMS, Video Messaging and Instant Messaging
  • Support for the AT&T-specific apps including AppCenter, Music, Address Book, Video Share and Mobile Video and AT&T Navigator
  • Built-in music player
  • Expandable memory up to 16GB
  • Tri-band 3G connectivity and quad-band GSM

The Flight II is available now exclusively at Radio Shack locations for $49.99 with a new two-year customer agreement or for $299 without a contract.

While the Flight II is targeted for the texters amongst us, the Eternity II is designed for those who prefer a touchscreen-only device.  The Eternity II is the next generation of the almost two-year old Eternity and shares many of the same core features of it predecessor. The AT&T Eternity II will include:

  • 3.0-inch touchscreen
  • 2MP camera & camcorder
  • Full HTML browser
  • Smart Gestures
  • AT&T Mobile TV
  • Enhanced social networking with PicDial, Star Tweets and WHERE
  • Full messaging capabilities including Mobile Email, MS, MMS, Video Messaging and Instant Messaging
  • Support for the AT&T-specific apps including AppCenter, Music, Address Book, Video Share and Mobile Video and AT&T Navigator
  • Enhanced GPS Functionality, such as Fitness Tracking
  • Music Player with Mobile Music and Videos
  • Expandable Memory up to 32GB
  • Triband 3G connectivity and quadband GSM

The Eternity II will launch August 15th online and at AT&T retail locations nationwide. Pricing is yet to be announced. Anyone interested in either of these handsets for a teen or tween in your family or perhaps as a back-up to an iPhone?
