UK supermarket chain Tesco has been running its MVNO business, Tesco Mobile, for quite some time now. Now they’ve unveiled a new monthly plan for the younger market, which interested individuals can grab for only 6 GBP a month. Translated into U.S. dollars that’s $9.39 which is very, very affordable for a monthly plan.
That money buys you 100 minutes of voice and unlimited text messages, and you only need to commit to a single month! We gotta ask – what’s the catch? Well, if you go over those 100 minutes, there’s a whopping 0.20 GBP charge per additional minute. In other words, talking for 30 minutes longer will effectively double your monthly bill.
Moreover, it’s a SIM-only deal, meaning you’ll have to grab a handset for yourself and it has to be compatible with Tesco’s SIM cards. I guess any phone should work, but I may be wrong…
Finally, mobile data wise, a single megabyte costs 4 GBP! That’s a robery in my book, but then again I wouldn’t jump on this plan, anyways. It’s made for folks who text a lot and eventually make some phone calls. In that sense, I believe Tesco has a winner here.
