Sadly, I often find myself in a real time crunch when I’m heading to meetings. I always seem to be about 10 minutes behind and have to frantically send out an e-mail approximating how long it will take me to get to a location. TeleNav is hoping to ease this pain with its new OnMyWay app for the Apple iPhone and Android.
The OnMyWay app for Apple iPhone and Android lets you send a notification to a person or group about how long it will take for you to arrive. As you would expect from TeleNav, this is done by using your phone’s GPS.
The Apple iPhone and Android app integrate with your phone’s address book to pull in your contacts. To make it work, you simply enter your destination, your schedule time and those you want to contact and the OnMyWay app does the rest. The app has been available for a while on BlackBerry.
Additionally, the company said:
OnMyWay automatically notifies recipients of the sender’s ETA by text or e-mail so the user can focus on driving. It delivers an initial notification alerting the receiver when the driver has started his/her trip and includes an anticipated ETA based on GPS location. Following the initial alert, up to three additional status messages might be automatically sent based on the sender’s preferences. Additional alerts sent to the recipient include notification if the sender will be late for the appointment (with a new ETA), when the person is a pre-determined time (in minutes) away from the destination, and one minute from arriving. OnMyWay does not share the user’s specific location in any of the notifications.
BlackBerry users can look forward to similar services as Research In Motion has a Traffic app which estimates your time of arrival. I’d expect RIM to open this service up to third-party developers soon.
The TeleNav OnMyWay program should be live now for the Apple iPhone and Google Android in their respective app stores.
