Telenor to pre-load Opera Mini web browser on phones it sells around the world

The Telenor Group and Opera Software have signed a non-exclusive Global Frame Agreement under which the Norway-based operator will pre-install Opera Mini on handsets it sells around the world. Telenor will be able to co-brand, distribute and run the popular mobile web browser in all geographies it covers, offering users a “fast, affordable and user-friendly mobile web experience.”

Moreover, the two parties will also work to further innovate and expand the scope of the mobile web. The first Opera Mini deployment in the Telenor network is scheduled for September.

Commenting on the news, Telenor’s Morten Karlsen Sørby, EVP and Head of Corporate Development, said: “Telenor has a vision to provide mobile Internet with a great user experience to everyone. We are confident that this agreement will help us provide Internet to a larger user group across the world. We are thrilled to work closely with Opera, a company that spun out of Telenor in the late 1990s, and have grown to become one of Norway’s most successful technology exports.”
