The location-aware mobile social service Loopt will be integrated in (I guess select) phones from US Cellular. No financial details were disclosed.
The carrier will implement the Loopt Location Platform, providing users with more frequent and accurate location updates. Loopt is working with US Cellular on various location experiences, including mapping and geo-location apps.
In a nutshell, this is a pure corporate news and it’s still unclear how it will affect the end users. We know Loopt has a mobile application for few smartphone platforms and I guess that app will also be included in the equation.
Loopt’s Location Platform is built on QPoint location server software licensed by SnapTrack Inc, a subsidiary of Qualcomm. Using this positioning technology, Loopt’s hosted LBS solution currently brings location solutions to multiple carriers in the U.S.
