Fallen Earth Companion App for iPhone Updated with Crafting, Auction House, and In-Game Mail Access

A couple of months ago, we got a sneak peek at an iPhone companion app for massively multiplayer online game Fallen Earth, which had updates allowing crafting of in-game items while on the move, buying and sell stuff in the auction house, and handling mail, including attachments. It was kind of neat because you were actually logged into the game while using the app, meaning you could chat with all of your clanmates like normal even when you weren’t in front of the computer. That updated iPhone app is now live, downloadable at the link below.

Fallen Earth is a subscription-based online computer game where you inhabit a shared post-apocalyptic world online with other players. The usual role-playing mechanics are in place, where you take on missions from non-player characters (entirely scripted by the game engine), go off and kill some enemies or collect some items, get experience points for completion, repeating until your character levels up and gets new abilities, thus enabling new missions. In the process, you get a whole set of equipment for your character, meet other players, and join forces to take on bigger challenges.

The most popular game of this type, World of Warcraft, has tapped into the mobile app thing as well, with Armory for character and gear lookup, and Auction House for selling virtual items. The latter actually bumps up the subscription fee, which strikes me as pretty snaky, but folks who are hardcore about their MMOs always want to be connected, especially when they’re away from the computer, and a mobile app is the perfect way to do that (even if it’s a few more bucks a month).

In any case, Fallen Earth is a pretty awesome game too – very gritty, and no elves. Always a bonus. Download links to the companion apps on iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android are below.
