The Samsung Apollo i5800 that had come out on Orange UK over the summer is now marked as “coming soon” to Telus here in Canada. The specs list pegs the Apollo as a definitively mid-range smartphone, packing a 3 megapixel camera, 3.2″ touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G, and Android 2.1. The custom Swype keyboard is an excellent preload, but I think I would have a hard time dealing with TouchWiz.
Apparently the Orange version let you switch between Samsung and Orange-customized skins, but maybe that was just an exclusive deal, especially since the Telus version is branded as “with Google”. If not, I’d be curious to see what kind of theme Telus would put on there, and if it would be any more extensive than HTC Scenes.
I’m a little sad that this isn’t the higher-end cousin we had seen in Korea, but I suppose the Galaxy S Vibrant is taking care of Samsung’s top-tier Android presence in Canada. The Galaxy Apollo is very similar to the Galaxy 3 that had come out in Germany and India over the last couple of months, except for a few . We’ll let you know as soon as we see this the Apollo go live on Telus – who knows, maybe it will find its way down to the U.S. soon.
