U.S. Cellular gets Motorola Grasp

If you’re on U.S. Cellular and you’re looking for quick-messaging device, the just-announced Motorola Grasp may be right up your alley.

It’s not as cool as some of Motorola’s high-end devices but the Motorola Grasp does have a full physical QWERTY keyboard for banging out those messages. I’d guess that it’s running a custom Linux-based OS that could have some rudimentary social networking features but don’t expect to overload this thing with apps.

The device has a 2.2-inch display, 1.3-megapixel camera, standard headphone jack, microSD slot that can support up to 32 GB of storage and Bluetooth 2.1. Look for about 5.3 hours of talk time, Motorola said.

“We know that our customers are on-the-go and deserve a phone that fits their busy lifestyles,” said David Macedon, device manager for U.S. Cellular, in a prepared statement. “The Motorola Grasp makes staying connected to family and friends easy and fun.”

Another good thing about the Grasp is that it’s supposed to be an environmentally-friendly device. The housing is free of those pesky BFR and PVC bugaboos and it is supposed to be completely recyclable.

The Grasp is not a blow-you-away device but it should do its job well. It’s available now and it is priced at $89.95 with a 2-year agreement, or $39.95 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
