A company called MEDL Mobile released a new iPhone app for fishermen in the U.S., FishID, allowing them to “spot every fish and fish every spot” to find the best catch. Touted as a “versatile toolkit,” FishID helps you identify any fish on a wide range of criteria, locate virtually any fishing spot, read all the local regulations, and there’s also an option to add spots of your own.
Each fish in the app’s database has its own profile with images, range maps, habitat data, common diet and even a description of its taste. Once you have landed your fish you can use this part of the app to identify the type of fish and eventually decide whether to eat it or not.
In terms of locating a place to fish, you can either input your current position (or let the app do that for you) or the name of fish you want to catch that day. FishID will return a Google Maps layout with tagged local spots.
Finally, you can share favorite locations and notes with fellow fishermen…
