The Motorola Flipout was expected to debut this weekend on AT&T but those two precious days of rest and relaxation have come and gone with nary a sight of this oddly shaped handset. The Flipout was announced back in early June and was spotted a few weeks later with AT&T-specific apps front and center on the handset’s homescreen. After launching on Rogers in early August, everyone expected this swiveling Android handset to land on AT&T soon afterwards. Unfortunately, the most recent rumor has turned that “soon afterwards” into a giant question mark.
It’s been six weeks since that Roger’s launch and the Flipout is still MIA here in the states. Staggering launches on different carriers is not a cause for alarm but the signs pointing to an imminent launch of this square handset on AT&T are not very encouraging. Instead of spending the weekend stocking the shelves and hanging signs for the Flipout, AT&T employees were reportedly destroying all promotional materials for this Motorola Android handset per AT&T’s instructions.
A carrier would not make such a drastic and expensive decision without a valid reason. If true, this unusual move suggests the Flipout has been delayed due to a serious hardware or software glitch or given the axe for an unknown reason. Stay tuned while we try to uncover what has happened to this odd but intriguing Android handset.
