Wind Mobile Launches Motorola XT720 (Motoroi) for $430

The Motorola XT720 (also known as the Motoroi) has gone live on Wind Mobile after making a brief appearance in some training materials. It matches the BlackBerry Bold 9700’s price point at $430, which is as pricey as phones get on Wind Mobile.

That being said, the Motorola XT720 brings a lot to the yard, including Android 2.1, a 3.7″ WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, HSPA 3G on AWS bands, Wi-Fi, GPS, and HDMI-out. This is a nice counterpoint to Wind Mobile’s first Android phone, the Huawei U8100, which was squarely entry-level, and solidly competes with high-end Android handsets on Canada’s big three, like the the Samsung Captivate that just went opened pre-orders on Rogers, the HTC Desire on Telus, and the Samsung Vibrant I9000 on Bell. We have yet to see the Motorola XT720 anywhere else in North America, but T-Mobile is a likely candidate, considering the interoperable AWS bands.

Since we aren’t seeing the Droid 2 or Droid X north of the border, it’s high time some upper-tier Android handsets from Motorola hit Canada again. Samsung has been busy on that front, while LG’s most aggressive push with Android in Canada lately has been a refreshed Ally on Telus.

If you’re digging the look of the Motorola XT720 (if not the name), you can check it out in Wind Mobile’s online store, or take a look at our hands-on video with the Korean version.
