You know your mobile app is a hit when you have Don Draper talking about it on late night television. Jon Hamm went on the Late Late Show to finally explain the Angry Birds phenomenon.
As you can see from the video below, even Hamm can’t make the story seem cool: some green pigs have stolen birds’ eggs and that makes the birds angry. In order to get back those eggs, the birds decide to fling themselves from giant slingshots to destroy the swine.
Yeah, I felt really dumb for just writing that. But I don’t feel dumb about being an Angry Birds fan because the game is downright addictive. It has that perfect balance of easy-to-learn and hard-to-master that just make for an excellent mobile game.
This success is translating into some dollars too for the game’s creators, Rovio. There’s undoubtedly a stuffed animal lineup and there’s even talk of an animated series and a movie deal.
The Angry Birds game shows that these apps have hit the mainstream and look for this game to continue to gain momentum. It is already available on the iPhone and Symbian but a full version of the game is expected in a few weeks.
