Android isn’t unfamiliar with the military, so why not NASA? It looks like the National Aeronautics and Space Administration have come up with a way for the Android-powered Nexus One to control a Senseta Rover. Coupled with Arduino and Bluetooth on board, the Nexus One may have felt right at home with its geeky brethren.

It’s said with the use of  Bluetooth and the Arduino chip, the rover is not only cheaper, but is also more maneuverable as well. The updated tech allows for the rover to be lighter and use less power. Gotta think green — even on the moon I guess. Joking aside, it’s pretty cool to see what people are cooking up with this phone that’s almost 10 months old at this point. It might as well be 2 years in the tech world-years. It’s good to see the Nexus One still kicking around and looks to have a lot of life left in it.

Since the devices are paired via Bluetooth, we’re a bit iffy as to how this particular rover will perform on the moon or whatever planet they decide to throw it on. It’s likely a proof of concept, and will probably be revised in a more functional way. Whatever may come of this little project, we’re pretty pumped to see a Nexus One possibly make it to space.

Who knows where we will find the Nexus One next, or what large organization will have their way with it. In either case, we’ll be all ears to hear what the Nexus One is really capable of outside of day-to-day smartphone use.

Where would you like to see the Nexus One next? This doesn’t include cameos on the next episode of Dexter, so think larger than that.

Check out the video below to see the rover in action
