Remember those early days of Windows when 3.1 ruled the roost with its awesome Program Manager and Windows 95 was considered cutting edge? Well, you can relive those days, not with some aging desktop pulled from the recesses of your basement, but with your iPad. In a seven-minute video that may turn the stomachs of Apple fans, YouTube user MSComputerVideos takes an Apple iPad running iOS and turns it into a Windows 3.1 machine. If that was not heretical enough, he inflicts even more torture upon unsuspecting Apple users by booting Windows 95 on Apple’s latest tablet device.
Obviously, this is hack is accomplished using an emulator (bochs emulator) and is done more for enjoyment than usability as WiFi, sound, and the virtual keyboard are broken. Nonetheless, it is a clever hack and one that can be duplicated by iPad owners everywhere, if they have the stomach for it and don’t care if they desecrate their device.
