Samsung Transform Android Slider Shows up in Sprint Manual

An unannounced Android slider from Samsung, the Transform, has shown up in a Sprint user manual online. It’s running stock Android 2.2, has a 3 megapixel camera, a secondary forward-facing camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth and a microSD memory card slot.  The defining feature of the Samsung Transform is a Sprint ID system, which allows customers to buy and download packs of content that inclulde icons, wallpapers, menus and apps. A good example is the Sprint pack, which comes with TV, TeleNav, NASCAR, and live football apps, along with a collection of wallpapers and ringtones.

The Transform will likely be the little brother to the Epic 4G, keep the Samsung Intercept company in the mid-range, and offer an Android slider alternative to AT&T’s new Flipside, Verizon’s mid-range LG Ally, and T-Mobile’s Motorola Charm. I still don’t know how many people will actually make use of this ID system, but that’s largely dependent on the quality and the selection of the content packs that are provided. Changing Android icons isn’t that hard, with themes already available in the Market, and most of the Sprint stuff used in the manual’s example is considered bloatware by most users. Perhaps Sprint ID is simply a channel to offer that extra stuff without preloading it and being a general hassle for those who try to delete it.
