iPhone App from MTV Helps Kids Identify Bullying

After a series of unfortunate incidents involving bullying, awareness for the issue has exploded, resulting in celebrity pleas, new charitable foundations, and now a new iPhone app from MTV called “Over the Line”. Basically, troubled teens submit their situations anonymously, where the public at large can vote on whether it was on, over, or under the line.  This can be useful for both those who are the subject of bullying as well as those who might be bullying, but don’t quite realize it. There’s also a website where you can submit and browse submissions, ranging in categories from sexual, online, mobile, verbal, and physical abuse.

It’s too bad that the situation has come to such a head, but hopefully with apps like this and wider public sensitivity, we won’t see any more related suicides. Of course, there’s the whole gay/lesbian angle to the aforementioned suicides that makes these situations all the more complicated, but that too is far from an insurmountable obstacle.

You can download the app for free here in iTunes.
