Player X has been appointed as the offical aggregator of all games and video content for Virgin Mobile in the UK. The deal includes all the portal management, aggregation, QA, and any encoding required.
It’s quite unusual that a single company has been appointed to do what is potentially such a large amount (both in terms of volume and categories) of an MNO’s content – most Operators I have worked with or for, favour the ‘eggs in many baskets’ approach. Perhaps Virgin, as an MvNO are looking at a different outsourcing strategy, allowing them to focus on grabbing revenue-generating subscribers.
Or perhaps Virgin have decided that content isn’t that important, and they are going to focus on the twin moo-ing cash cows of voice and text – there, I said it….thoughts anyone?
