Just before the weekend, there was a hint that Telus would be launching the Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate, and today they’ve gone official with an announcement. They’ll be pitching this to gamers specifically by hosting a Gaming Expo in downtown Toronto, where World Cyber Game champions will come to compete. No mention of pricing or release date, but you can bet your stockings that it’ll be here before the holidays.
Those familiar with the Verizon device will know that the Fascinate has a 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and runs on a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor (which as you might have guessed, is great for gaming), and 16 GB of internal storage. As for software, the Samsung Fascinate has Android 2.1, which includes the portable Wi-Fi hotspot function. It comes preloaded with the Swype software keyboard, which recognizes words based on gestures rather than key taps. Trust me, it’s pretty awesome. The Fascinate is also DLNA-capable, meaning you can stream video, music, and pictures from your phone to a certified TV.
Barring any more launches, the Samsung Fascinate will join the HTC Desire as headlining Telus’ holiday Android lineup. It seems to me that they trump what Bell and Rogers are offering right now, but that could change over the next couple of weeks…
Anyhoo, press release on page 2.
