This past September was a historic month. Vodafone Czech Republic has sold more phones with Android than with the Symbian operating system!
Sure it’s a single carrier in not that big of a market, but it is definitely a sign of changing times. Up until now, no other smartphone platform came even close to Symbian’s dominance in Europe (and Asia for that matter), but as we all know – things are moving in a different direction these days.
One of the reasons this is happening is obviously the introduction of low-cost Android smartphones. Heck some of the carriers even offer their own-branded Android devices such as Vodafone 845, providing users with a great value for the money.
Symbian is still ruling the world, but Android is steadily growing. So we ask you – is Symbian ultimately doomed as reported earlier? Or it’s set to keep its king of the mid-range market title with few high-end exceptions like the Nokia N8? Comment form is all yours… 😉
And please note we’re not trying to laugh at Symbian’s difficulties, we’re just excited to see the market moving forward in a process that will bring us even better devices at even lower prices.
