Did you get a little envy for our overseas friends when the HTC Wildfire hit their carriers earlier this year? The Nexus One-esque Android handset had everything you could possibly want in a keyboard-less HTC device, but it was one of the first few to adopt an optical trackpad over the clunky and grime-prone trackball. Now, it’s coming to the U.S. later this year.
Here are specs that we listed earlier in the year:
The Wildfire has a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM7225 processor, meaning that it’s not only half the clock speed of the 1 GHz Nexus One, but it’s also using old the old ARMv6 instruction set that started being phased out around this time last year. You also get 384 MB of RAM, again short of the 512 MB in the Nexus One, a 3.2 inch, 320 x 240 resolution display, compared to 3.7 inch 800 x 480. Everything else is the same: 5 megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Android 2.1, etc.
It might not be packing all the power that a Nexus One, but it’s still a pretty capable handset. At least you should be getting the Wildfire here in the States for a pretty decent price, especially given the current crop of Android powerhouses.
The HTC Wildfire is hitting multiple carriers later this year, so pricing hasn’t been announced just yet. For more details, hit the press release on the next page.
