The DROID 2 Global is nearing its anticipated launch date and the pace of rumors is picking up. This world edition handset has been spotted in the wild, queued up for training by Verizon employees, included on a Verizon rebate form, and even unintentionally revealed by Motorola when the handset made a fleeting appearance on the manufacturer’s website.
This latest rumor finds the DROID 2 Global making an appearance in the inventory system of Costco. The inventory system includes two entries for the DROID 2 Global. One is for the D2G in stylish black and another is for the D2G in striking white. The presence of two variants of this rumored Verizon handset coincide nicely with the two listings for the D2G on a recent Verizon Wireless rebate sheet. Most folks speculated the rebate sheet pointed to a camera and camera-less version of the D2G, but this latest rumor suggests it refers to the paint job.
The D2 Global is expected to be a minor update to the DROID 2 which launched in August. The global-friendly version of the handset will include quad-band GSM and an upgraded 1.2Ghz processor. The remaining specs match the original D2 and include a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, landscape QWERTY keyboard, touchscreen display, and Android 2.2.
If this leaked screen grab from Costco’s inventory system is correct, then the D2G may debut for $199 with a two-year customer agreement. Also interesting to note is the presence of the $149 T-Mobile Comet which is expected to arrive on November 3rd. Though still unconfirmed, this screen grab appears to be correct. Rumors point to the upcoming arrival of the D2G on Verizon and the Comet on T-Mobile; that $199 price tag is also the de facto standard for a DROID-branded on Verizon.
