Earlier this week, PayPal accidentally leaked information that suggested the online payment giant is planning to join the Android Market as an alternative payment method. The announcement was expected to take place last week at PayPal’s X-Innovate Conference but that conference came and went without an official announcement.
A source close to Android Central claims that PayPal is planning to unveil its new Android initiative on November 2nd. Details were not available but a series of press releases from PayPal, developers, and publishers are expected later this week. The addition of PayPal to the Android Market will make it easier for folks to buy apps and other content from their Google phone. Rather than handing over their credit card information to Google, new users to the mobile platform may be more comfortable with setting up payments via their established PayPal account. Apple iTunes and the BlackBerry App World already use the online payment service and if this rumor pans out, we can add Android to this growing list.
