HTC was nice enough to release the source code for the Desire Z, G2, and the update for the Droid Incredible Android smartphones today, giving all who want to see just what’s going one in the guts of the devices.

Not all the code for these devices has been released, as HTC keeps the good stuff to themselves. But, the lack of this extra code only really affects those looking to make custom ROMs for said devices. This doesn’t usually stop the developers from getting their way, and we’re sure some magic will happen fairly soon.

You’re probably wonder, like many other T-Mobile G2 owners out there, whether or not the G2 source code can potentially yield a possible permanent root method. While it may help somewhat, the source code may not help Android developers in finding a permanent root solution, but it’s certainly won’t hurt their efforts.

Once the G2 and Desire Z are permanently rooted, and get some working custom recovery images up and running, it’s said that these ROMs can work interchangeably with each other. So if you’re a G2 owner and want to see what the updated Sense UI is like, it will be possible. But as of right now, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon. Stay patient, folks, as waiting longer will only make it more worth it. Or something like that.

Also released is the source code for the Droid Incredible update. After hearing the security problems about the device, let’s hope that there will be another update issued soon. In the mean time, you can poke through the recent update for the Incredible, just don’t expect to see anything too special. While the handset may still be one of the hottest Android phones available today, it may soon be phased out to make way for the Incredible HD, and we really can’t be too upset about that one. Well, you may not feel the same way if you just got your Incredible, but let’s not split hairs.

Nonetheless, lets hope that some of these devs find the source code for these devices somewhat useful.
