As spotted in their leaked Q4 roadmap, the Nokia N8 has landed on Rogers and is available today for $79.99 on contract.
The Nokia N8 is a multimedia beast, whose crowning specification is a 12 megapixel camera with Carl-Zeiss lens, Xenon flash, autofocus, 720p HD video recording, and all of the balance settings you could shake a stick at. The 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen is WVGA, and includes HDMI-out for those times that you want to get video to your TV. There’s also a neat USB feature that lets you plug in storage devices and have them read by the phone, in addition to setting your phone as a USB storage drive itself like usual. There’s also 16 GB of local storage, along with a microSD memory card slot if you need more room, plus the usual stuff like Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G. FM radio and FM transmission are both solid, often-overlooked features. The Symbian^3 OS has a few tricks up its sleeve, like visual multitasking and multiple home screens (though the N900 has had this for awhile), but it’s mostly the same ol’ Symbian experience you expect – which can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you’re used to.
Anyone looking at the Nokia N8 should take a looksee at our camera comparison with the iPhone 4 – it’s a close race, but I think the N8 has the edge. Hit up Rogers to get shopping (though I’m having trouble accessing the link right now).
