iPhone unlocking and jailbreaking have been ramping up in the days leading up to Apple’s release of the official iPhone SDK. We’ve seen SIM unlock solutions, jailbreaks, downgrade methods, the whole kit-n-kaboodle. But, all those methods involved at least a bit of work (if not a lot of command terminal-fiddling).
Well, thanks to iPhone developer Zibri, the iPhone community now has a super-simple software-based unlock and jailbreak solution for all iPhones running the new v1.1.3 firmware. Yes, that includes OTB (out of the box) v1.1.3 iPhones running the updated Bootloader v4.6.
The “ZiPhone” package should jailbreak your iPhone using the iPhone Dev Team’s official jailbreak solution, activate your iPhone, and then unlock the sucker to work on any GSM network in the world. iPhone users with Mac or Windows will be happy to hear that the ZiPhone solution is compatible with both platforms and should make quick work of freeing your iPhone from file-system jail and network lockdown.
Keep reading for a quick how-to on the new ZiPhone jailbreak/unlock process.
Windows users will want to:
- Download the ZiPhone package. (Unzip to your desktop)
- Downgrade to iTunes 7.4.2.
- Run the ZiPhone.exe file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Mac users will want to:
- Download the ZiPhone package. (Unzip all the contents to your user directory)
- Fire up your Terminal application. (Applications>Utilities>Terminal)
- Drag the “ziphone” file onto the Terminal window.
- Follow on-screen instructions (Disconnect iPhone cable, Turn off iPhone, Hold down “Home” button, Turn on iPhone, reconnect iPhone cable)
There you have it. A quick and easy iPhone v1.1.3 jailbreak and unlocking solution.
