With Verizon Wireless and MetroPCS committing to LTE, U.S. Cellular doesn’t want to be left behind, hence they’ve unveiled their own LTE plans. According to the company’s executive VP and CFO, Steven Campbell, U.S. Cellular will conduct LTE tests in Q1 2011 and will select a lead LTE vendor early next year.
Speaking at the Wells Fargo Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in New York City, Mr. Campbell also said the carrier will launch one LTE test market late next year, with a large-scale LTE deployment to follow in 2012.
Moreover he talked about inking deals with network wholesalers like Clearwire or LightSquared, saying they [U.S. Cellular] are constantly on the lookout for additional spectrum on which to run its services. However, he was quick to point out that there are no immediate plans on the topic, adding: “I don’t think we’re feeling a sense of crisis or urgency.”
There you have it folks, another carrier is committing to LTE. All we can do now is wait for a day when there will be few LTE options to choose from…
