Chase Mobile banking app now available for Android

You may have seen the TV ads of the Chase Mobile banking app for the iPhone that allows you to deposit a check just by taking a picture of it? Well, Chase has now released the application for Android.

The application allows you to deposit check by using your phone’s camera, although we’ve heard it may take a day or two longer than a normal deposit sometimes. You’ll also be able to use the basic banking services like check your account transactions, transfer funds, pay your bills with Chase’s Online Bill Pay service, etc. This is quite a step up from the mobile site, which I’ve never used outside of checking my balance from time to time.

Android Central got some screenshots of the app showing off what it can do, and not only is it much more functional than the mobile site, it’s just nicer to look at. Now if Chase could have retained WaMu’s tagline of, “We don’t nickel and dime you,” then we’d be all set.

This application may become even more interesting when NFC (Near Field Communication) becomes a part of the Android OS, which is said to debut in the next version, Gingerbread. Imagine just tapping your phone to purchase a product of some sort, and then checking your balance right from the app. Of course, the handset itself will need to have a NFC chip built inside, so we imagine that a bank would have to step up and provide support for such a feature before NFC goes mainstream.

Nonetheless, Chase Android users have a better way to bank from their phones now, and for the time being, that’s good enough for us.

You can grab the application in the Android Market right now, and it’s free, of course.
