Bubble Motion: We got the “Voice SMS” patent

Mobile voice and text messaging technology company Bubble Motion announced that it has been awarded a patent for its work in pioneering mobile messaging in a format known as “Voice SMS.”

Here’s what’s it all about (from the press release):

The patent covers the ability for consumers to click, record and send voice-recorded messages to one or many recipients – all without needing to place an actual call. Like text messaging, voice SMS is a simple way to record and send messages, with the added benefits of authenticity, emotion, and nuance that can only be detected through actual human voice.

Bubble Motion filed for the patent in early 2002, when it was the first of its kind filed globally, well before some other “Voice SMS” patents were filed with the US Patent Office. The company says this affirms their “leadership in voice messaging innovation.” We certainly dig their voice-based Twitter-like service – Bubbly. 😉
