MetroPCS has turned on its 4G LTE service in the San Francisco area and users will now be able to get next-generation mobile data without a contract.
MetroPCS offers 4G LTE service for as little as $55 with voice and texting service and that’s significantly cheaper than some of the competitors. This also includes taxes and fees, as well as no long-term contracts.
The Samsung Craft is the only phone capable of utilizing the 4G LTE network but some may be disappointed that this isn’t a full smartpone. Still, the Samsung Craft does have a web browser, access to popular social networks and more.
“As the only no annual contract, pay-in-advance service provider offering 4G LTE services, MetroPCS continues to deliver the innovative, flexible and affordable services our customers rely on,”
said Roger D. Linquist, president, CEO and chairman of MetroPCS, in a prepared statement.
The MetroPCS 4G LTE network in San Francisco is just the latest sign that we’re entering the next generation of mobile data networks. The carrier was actually the first to get a 4G LTE handset out in America but the competition is coming quickly.
Sprint has been offering WiMax services for more than a year and it now has two handsets which can take advantage of it: the EVO and the Epic. T-Mobile is marketing its HSPA+ service as 4G and it has multiple smartphone which can use this network.
Verizon just announced that it will be lighting up its 4G LTE network Saturday in 38 markets and 60 airports. This will first launch with USB dongles but we can look forward to smartphones in the first half of next year.
Now that the service is lit up in the city I live in, I’ll soon be receiving a Samsung Craft for testing purposes. Keep your eyes on this site for some full impressions soon.
