If Amazon can do it, why can’t Samsung? Android will eventually have a handful of different application markets available from various different vendors, which may or may not be a bad thing. Samsung, for example, has their own application market for Android. The catch is that it’s only for those in Turkey.
The screenshots of Samsung’s Android app store show that as long as it’s done right, an app store can be themed in a dark color scheme. Samsung organizes the store into Home, Applications, Games, Videos, and Wallpaper categories – the latter two we’ve yet to see on the real Android Market. You’ll also find the familiar “Most Recent” and “Most Popular” tabs when sifting through apps, but no “Similar” category.
Interestingly enough, anyone can download the Android Market alternative by going over to samsungandroidmarket.com. Obviously you’re going to want to translate the page from Turkish to your desired language, so that you can navigate the page. Or, that’s just too much work, you can see what Samsung’s Turkish Android Market looks like through the magic of screenshots. Find those below.
The Samsung Market will receive updates as time goes on, and it will be interesting to see how what kind of traction this alternative the official store might gain with users. I don’t see myself switching to another Market anytime soon, but then again, you don’t have to choose any one market exclusively. You can use many different outlets for getting your apps on one phone, so you can’t really lose.
