Skyfire has been the go-to browser for users who are heavy video users, but the app really took off and gained notice when it was announced for the iPhone. Despite the raging popularity on the Apple platform, however, the Android version is still being cared for by Skyfire. Today the service announced a small update that comes with a few new features and some bug fixes.
Here is what’s included in this particular update:
- Move to SD Card: One of the most requested features for FroYo (Android OS 2.2) and later devices. Now, with one click, you can move the app to SD card to free up some memory. This feature can be found in “Manage Applications” under “Settings”.
- Improved Download Workflow: File download will happen in background and notification will be automatically placed in the system tray. This should make downloading files faster and more fun.
- Upload file: For users on FroYo (Android OS 2.2) and later, you will now be able to upload files from within the browser.
- Crash Reporting: Although Skyfire 3.0 is very stable, there are still some infrequent crashes and that’s not acceptable to us. With Skyfire 3.0.1, we have made it very easy for our users to send us anonymous logs so we can squash the bugs that cause these crashes. If Skyfire crashes, the next time you launch the application, you will be prompted to send us the logs. Please rest assured that this is anonymous and we will look at this daily to improve the browser.
The option to move the application to the SD card is big, especially for those who own handsets with limited internal memory. And since Froyo allows app storage on the SD card, this will undoubtedly delight many Skyfire users.
It also looks like the app should be more stable than it already was, according to Skyfire. There’s nothing quite like being in the middle of gobbling up some form of entertainment and having your app freeze or close out for no apparent reason. With the update, it should be happening less often, if at all.
