Urbanspoon, the location-based restaurant-finding app cross-bred with a slot machine, has just added the ability to add pictures and reviews to individual menu items. That also means you can see what dishes look like at particular restaurants, and see if they taste as good as they look. The app’s also available for iPad, Android, and BlackBerry, though the new feature hasn’t been implemented quite yet.
Urbanspoon lets you look for places to eat nearby based on particular criteria, like price, style of cuisine, and proximity. The real signature part of the app is the ability to let the app pick something random within your specifications by shaking the phone. Don’t like what comes up? Just give it another shake. User can also leave written reviews for restaurants
Adding pictures is a great way for Urbanspoon to crowdsource content creation, as well as offer a bit more visual flair to their already-successful app. I’m curious if they’ll get on the check-in bandwagon like Yelp did, either by starting their own system, or simply plugging in to Facebook Places or Foursquare. Sure would make sense, given you’re already going to be out and about if you’re looking stuff up in the app anyway.
