The Vodafone 845, the Big Red’s attempt to make and offer its own branded Android smartphone is failing or at least the price of the device suggests so. Instead of asking for a signed contract, the carrier is now offering the 845 for 70 GBP on PAYG.
As you may know from our previous post, Vodafone’s baby is an entry-level Android smartphone with “nowadays not that popular” resistive touchscreen that actually requires you to press the screen. Android 2.1 is running the show and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
In other words, the Vodafone 845 is a nice introduction to the world of Android smartphones and it will definitely deliver for 70 pounds. However, you shouldn’t expect many of the high-end features we’re talking about on IntoMobile to work on the device.
Now I wonder whether Vodafone (and other carriers for that matter) will drop the idea of own-branded smartphones or will “bless” us with few new models in 2011. What do you say?
