China and India are gearing toward launching TD-LTE networks. In China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has green-lighted China Mobile to begin its TD-LTE trials in six cities, including Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiamen. The world’s largest mobile operator is expected to explore the technical and commercial performance of the network and supporting devices, using equipment from various vendors, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks included. Moreover, it is said that Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and ZTE will also participate in an effort to launch commercial TD-LTE services during 2012.
As for India, Reliance Industries is in the process of closing the selection of vendors for a $1 billion TD-LTE rollout. The company is reportedly working with Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Huawei, although it is not clear if it intends to select a single vendor or split the contract between multiple partners.
