Kongregate Launches Android Arcade With 300 Free Games

Kongregate, a network of browser-based Flash games that was bought up by GameStop over the summer, just released their first mobile app, which will bring some 300-odd games to Android phones for free. Headlined is Vector Runner, a really great racing game that has been on iPhone for awhile, and has also become available as a standalone game in the Android Market. Kongregate is continuing their trend of offering points and achievements with their mobile app, including a few exclusives. Although usually you need to be online to play Kongregate games, you can download the ones available on Android for offline play.

The one caveat to the app is you need a phone running Android 2.2 Froyo and up, plus have Flash 10.1 installed, which makes me a little nervous; is Flash performance on mobile really good enough for gaming just yet? Maybe once these dual-core phones proliferate a little bit but right now, I would way sooner go for a game built specifically for Android rather than some Flash repackaged as an app.

Still, it’s a great way to make a whole bunch of existing, free games available on mobile. If you want to give Kongregate Arcade a shot, you can find it in the Market. I really hope they have Desktop Tower Defense in there…
