Courts grant Huawei’s request to hold Motorola and Nokia Siemens Network deal

Yesterday we learned that Huawei was suing Motorola for illegally transferring secrets to Nokia Siemens Network. When Nokia Siemens Network, or NSN, announced its purchase of the Motorola wireless business in July 2010, Motorola failed to respond to Huawei’s request for assurances that its technologies – which it shared with Motorola – would be protected. In a hearing on Monday evening, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois put a temporary hold on the NSN-Motorola deal.

The courts said, “Defendant Motorola [is] hereby ordered not to disclose any of Plaintiff’s confidential information to Defendant Nokia Siemens Networks.”

Fair enough considering Huawei’s intellectual property is confidential and that Motorola never had the rights to share them anyway. And since Huawei and NSN are direct competitors in the business, some serious damage could be caused to Huawei’s business if that information is transferred over.
