Deutsche Bank tries iPhone, may never go back to BlackBerry

Deutsche Bank has apparently seen the light with the iPhone and may never go back to using BlackBerry according to an analyst. Deutsche Bank Equity Research’s Chris Whitmore says that for the past two months, the company has been trying out the iPhone and that overall results are largely positive. Uh oh, bad news for RIM.

Finextra reports:

The e-mail is served using Microsoft exchange through a Good Technologies interface which looks and feels like accessing a Gmail account on the iPhone, says Whitmore in a note.

The result “was a fantastic experience as it was easier/faster to access data (touch UI) than on the Blackberry. It was also great to only have to carry one device for personal and corporate email access.”

This reminds me of a time when Microsoft and RIM reminded the world that the iPhone wouldn’t be ideal for corporate users because it lacked a keyboard and it didn’t support IT security policies. The downside is that push e-mail isn’t supported unless you’re forwarding it to MobileMe or you’re using Microsoft Exchange on the iPhone, but apparently the benefits greatly outweigh the cost. If Deutsche Bank allows its fleet of mobile users to switch to the iPhone, it could encourage bigger companies to do the same.

Many big companies and major law firms are already giving their employees the option to use iPhones in lieu of the traditional BlackBerry. Apparently, Bank of America, Citi, JP Morgan Chase, Standard Chartered and UBS are all trying out the iPhone and Android devices and weighing their options. And with the iPhone coming to Verizon, it gives these companies even greater options if coverage is what was holding them back before. What should RIM’s next move be?
