The Motorola Atrix 4G is looking to set the world on fire with all kinds of high-end features crammed into one device. With all the fingerprint scanner, 4G data connection, and dual-core processor tech stuffed within the Atrix, some may be wondering why it will only records video in 720p HD resolution. For all you HD junkies out there, you’ll be happy to hear that this high-powered handset will be upgraded to support 1080p HD video capture shortly after launch.
The dual-core chipset inside the Atrix, the NVIDIA Tegra 2, allows for 1080p video recording, and it looks likely that we’ll see this option unlocked through a software update for the device. This harkens back to last year, when the Droid Incredible received 720p HD video recording via an update, only this time around, it’s a much higher-end device, and it’s 1080p. To be honest, I couldn’t care less about having 1080p video recording, but I certainly wouldn’t complain about the option. Many will think differently.
We’re not sure how long the Atrix will be out of the gate before we get to see this option, but if it doesn’t come soon enough, it’ll come through an unofficial implementation. That’s to say that Motorola hasn’t locked the Atrix down as they had with previous devices. This is one of the reasons I will have a hard time switching from HTC devices, as once they are cracked, you’re good to go, even if it takes a while. While Motorola’s devices can be rooted and hacked, the handset-maker will try their hardest to change that. Still, even if Motorola’s follow through on the HD video update takes too long, we’ll probably see it enabled by the hacker community in due time.
Nonetheless, cheers to Motorola for bringing a much wanted feature to a highly anticipated handset.
